MAKERS' MORNING WORKSHOPS
Offered on select Mondays throughout the summer! Come and tinker with us in the COMO's Makerspace while getting a taste of upcoming camps! Participants can begin exploring the "Makers Philosophy" of problem solving, project-based learning, observation, and the ability to fail fast and safe in a supportive learning environment.
Dungeons and Dragons Adventure
This Makers' Morning is an introduction to next week's Dungeons and Dragons (DND) camp. DND is a tabletop role-playing game that focuses on participants playing as specific characters within the game. These characters embark upon imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master (DM) serves as the game's referee and storyteller while maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur. The characters form a party that interacts with the setting's inhabitants, and each other. Together they solve dilemmas, engage in battles, and gather treasure and knowledge.

Building A Stonington Skiff in Minecraft
As an introduction to our Summer Minecraft Shipwrights camp, this Makers' Morning explores the shipwright mod in Minecraft and the history of the now-famous Stonington Skiff that was developed at Shaffer's Marina in Mystic. The Stonington Skiff is now an iconic boat design loved by sport fisherman and professional fisherman. We will study the vessel's design in order to understand its functionality as a working boat. We’ll then go into Minecraft and build our own Stonington Skiffs to see how they perform in our virtual harbour.
Date & Time: Monday, July 16 | 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
This Makers' Morning will introduce participants to the fast spray painting technique known as “speed painting”- a very popular method of making quick, amazing looking art. The method implements stencils, newsprint and spray paint. Students will learn the process of technique-driven work, explore layout and composition while safely using spray paints. This is a great introduction to next week's week-long Mobile Mural camp.
