Stonington Community Center Preschool Receives Accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children
The Stonington Community Center (COMO) today announced that its Doris Muller Preschool recently received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) -- the world’s largest organization working on behalf of young children.
NAEYC accreditation recognizes high-quality learning environments. The process, which took more than two years to complete, is a rigorous one that involves benchmarking on a set of 10 research-based standards. This distinction is not easily achieved, but is highly coveted in the field of early childhood education. More than 7,000 programs are currently accredited by NAEYC—less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.
“Our standard for all our programs is excellence,” COMO Executive Director Beth Stewart said. “This is the bar. NAEYC has publicly recognized this standard within our preschool classroom and team as a result of our education director Priscilla Rouquayrol’s leadership.”
In order to achieve this distinction, a program must meet certain standards for categories such as excellence in curriculum, child assessment, family communication, community collaboration, physical environment and leadership and management. The COMO preschool achieved a 99% pass rate and received commendations in nine of the categories, citing excellence in those areas. The COMO offers a highly-personalized, caring atmosphere, which its preschool teaching staff are proud to be a part of. The COMO staff as a whole prides itself on maintaining excellence in all programming and cultivating interpersonal connections with families, members and the larger community.
“This merit recognizes the COMO’s commitment to excellence and our staff’s hard work,” Stewart said. “We couldn’t be more proud of earning this recognition.”
