Introduction to Pottery

Try your hand at pottery for the first time, or get back into the fundamentals with Intro to Pottery! This course will cover basic hand-building methods, an introduction to glazing with a class or two spent on the potter’s wheel. Learn some essentials – how to form pinch pots, coil pots, work with slab pieces – and fall in love with ceramics!

Introduction II Special Topics:

Perfect for students who have taken Intro to Pottery, and want to further explore the world of ceramic design and graphics, Special Topics delves into unique building and decorative methods. Based on student interest, methods covered could include “broomstick” handbuilding, surface slip applications, mocha diffusion and more! All are welcome to this class, but please note that this course has been designed for students with some clay experience.

Intermediate Pottery

A great fit for those who wish to develop more advanced clay techniques and increase their knowledge of ceramics as an art form. This course is designed for past students – COMO’s Introduction to Pottery class is a prerequisite required to register for the intermediate class.  Individuals can sign up for the full eight weeks or can sign up for specific dates.  This is ideal for those who want to make a single project or have questions/concerns about specific topics that arise during their own clay practice.

Dates & Times: Wednesdays, March 15- May 3 | 10:00 am- 12:00 pm

Intermediate Sculpture

New course! Students will learn how to manipulate clay in different ways different from traditional functional ware. The first couple classes will be introducing various methods of sculpting from realism to abstract.  Students will then plan a bigger project to complete over the next few weeks.  A final crit will end the session where students can share their learning process. Clay experience is not required, but is a plus.

Bench Time

For $10/hour you will be able to work in the studio, at your own pace, continuing projects from class and sharpening your pottery techniques! Bench time can be purchased at the COMO main office, online, or in the studio during the scheduled times below:

Tuesday: 5:30 - 8:30pm

Wednesday: noon - 2pm/5:30 - 8:30 pm

Thursday: 5:30 - 8:30pm

Saturday: 10am - 3pm
