Winter Art & Technology Classes

Arriving early to a COMO Art & Technology class on the bus? Does class get out before you can pick up your child? We get it. Schedules are hard and we can help fill the gaps! If your middle school student needs to arrive a little early or stay a little late we have adult supervision available until class starts or until pick up. Middle school students can join our IMPACT program before or after their specialty programs for just $10 an hour! Those interested only need to call our front office at 860.535.2476 for details.

Monthly Maker Mondays

These engaging monthly workshops in the COMO's own MakerSpace are designed for a parent/guardian and child team. You and your child will be introduced to the COMO's makers' equipment and will be encouraged to tinker and create while for the duration of the workshop.

Last Monday of the month from 6-8 p.m.

Dec. 10 RESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, DEC. 20 - Safe Stained Glass. Traditional Stained Glass making can be time-consuming and dangerous because of the materials used. Using our Glowforge laser cutter, participants will be creating intricate acrylic glass design patterns to be colored and then assembled into a tradition "stain glass" like the piece.

Jan. 28 - Vortex Launcher. Using household items in a very smart and creative way, participants will design build and test a vortex launcher. A vortex launcher creates a ring of swirling air that can travel across a room!

Feb. 25 - Tiny Dancers (A Homopolar Motor): Using powerful Neodymium magnets participants will first, learn the science and engineer behind creating a homopolar motor and then participants will create an intricate wire sculpture that will "dance" under the power of the magnets and a small AAA battery.

March 25 - Project TBA

Members - FREE for one parent/guardian and one child (there is a $10 fee per additional child) w. materials fee
Non-member - $35 (there is a $10 fee per additional child) w. materials fee

Tinkering Tuesdays

Our day-time, drop-in. Explorers program is geared towards youth ages 7-12 who are home educated. We here at the COMO are advocates of Project Based Learning (PBL). PBL is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. Students can look forward to a wide array of PBL based experiments and challenges, including, but not limited to scale bridge design contest, model rocket building, egg drops, tons of science experiments, screen printing, video game making and much more!
