Fall Youth Basketball


K-2 Instructional Basketball

Designed for children in grades K-2, the COMO Instructional Basketball program focuses on teaching the basic rules, skills and fundamentals of the game. Emphasis is placed on providing a safe and fun atmosphere. Each player will participate in skill building games, drills, and activities that will enhance their basketball knowledge and overall athletic ability. Each week will have a new focus including movement, dribbling, passing and catching, shooting and defense. Each session will meet on Monday evenings at the COMO. Water bottles need to be brought to each session and parents are expected to stay for the duration of the session. Basketballs will be provided by the COMO.

Kindergarten/First Grade | 5-6 p.m .
Second Grade | 6-7 p.m.

Season: Oct. 28 - Dec. 2 (No class on Nov. 11th, Veterans Day)
Member Fee: $60
Non-Member Fee: $90

Basketball Skills and Drills (Grades 5-8)

This six-week program will help prepare basketball players of all ability levels for the upcoming winter season. Players will review the basic fundamentals of the game and each session will conclude with pick-up games.

Season: 6 Weeks, September - October                            

Member Fee: $70                                             
Non-Member Fee: $100

Boys: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6-7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 17 - Oct. 24

Girls: Tuesday & Thursday 6-7:30 p.m.

Como Rec Youth Basketball League

The Stonington Recreation Basketball Program is a joint venture run by the COMO and Stonington Human Services – Recreation Division.  REC Basketball is intended for all skill levels with an emphasis on athletic enjoyment, instruction, fundamentals, sportsmanship and equal playing time.  Teams practice once per week at the COMO or a local area school (Pawcatuck or Mystic Middle Schools). Games are scheduled on Saturdays. A skills day & open house will be held on Saturday, November 2 at Stonington High School to help form even teams for the season; times listed below.  All players are strongly encouraged to attend.

Players are invited to stop in anytime for league evaluations and open play.  Evaluations should take about 20/30 mins and players are welcomed to stay afterwards for pickup games as long as your schedule allows.  We understand that family schedules are busy with other sports at this time of year but our goal is to form as competitive teams as possible.  Please help spread the word and have your friends join you!
