HER TIME TO PLAY
Ages: 7-14
West Vine School: April 7 – May 26 (Tuesdays)
Stonington Middle School: April 10 – May 29 (Fridays)
Deans Mill School: April 6 – June 1 (Mondays)This is an after school program offered at Deans Mill School, West Vine School, and Stonington Middle School.
Her Time To Play is an initiative created by the WNBA and NBA to inspire the next generation of girls, ages 7-14, to play basketball in a positive and healthy way. Through sports, girls learn important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence. However, twice as many girls compared to boys drop out of sports by the age of 14, which can be attributed to societal barriers that are primarily faced by girls. This is a program split into chapters to be reviewed each week that pairs on-court training with off-court life skills lessons to build girls confidence, prepare them for the challenges of adolescence, and teach values like teamwork. Each chapter of the curriculum highlights personal life experiences and stories shared by WNBA players. Focus should be put on cooperation, not competition. Although the competitive aspects of sports can be valuable, these sessions are designed to make ALL girls feel included and comfortable.
This is a free program. Thank you to Breezeline and the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT for their generous support of this program!
