COMO Pottery Class Info:

The COMO offers a vibrant array of adult pottery programs designed to inspire creativity, enhance skills, and foster a sense of community among participants. Our pottery classes cater to various skill levels, from beginners to seasoned potters, providing a welcoming environment for all. Participants will have the opportunity to learn techniques in ceramics, including wheel throwing, hand-building, and glazing, while creating unique, expressive works of art. Finished pottery pieces are available to pick up 1-2 weeks after the last class, between 9-1pm M-F, after which they will be donated.

Bench Time: Weekly bench time is included in adult pottery classes. Bench time is held on Wednesdays from 6 to 8pm and Saturdays from 1 to 3:30pm. Bench time is on a first-come basis. Bench time is not instructor-led. Bench time is a time for students to practice their skills in the studio.

Clay: New students are required to purchase a bag of clay ($32) upon registration of their first class.

    Explore throwing on the wheel, handbuilding and glazing as you learn and practice creating with clay. This class is open to all levels of experience and projects can be catered to individuals needs and hopes. Weekly bench time is included in the class.

    This class is devoted to the understanding and practice of the joys of ceramics. Open to all. No experience is required. The instructor will teach according to each student’s skill level. You will learn the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel, hand-building, and glazing; so that by the end of the class you will have a portfolio of finished work. The main goal of this class is to create, as well as appreciate, expressive and beautiful three-dimensional clay forms.

  • NEW! THIRD THURSDAYS

    Spend the third Thursday every month in the COMO pottery studio for a free* evening of playing with clay! The instructor may help understand tools, but no instruction will be given on making specific projects. Pottery may be fired and clear glazed for an additional cost. Reservations will open the Sunday before the third Thursday of each month.
    Pricing: Free or donation to attend + $15/fired piece for Members, $20/fired piece for Nonmembers

  • INDEPENDENT POTTERY PROGRAM
    The COMO offers the opportunity for experienced potters to work on their own in the studio, with access to the studio at a wide variety of times during the week and weekends, when classes and bench time are not in session. Independent Potters are required to have taken at least one pottery class at the COMO in the past year in order to apply, regardless of experience. Individuals must show competence in the use of a variety of clay-forming techniques (use of the pottery wheel, hand-building, glazes), must demonstrate a good working knowledge of the studio (organization, machinery, equipment), and show an ability to carefully maintain the facilities.   • SIP ‘N’ SPIN POTTERY SOCIAL

    Bring your favorite wine, brew, or a beverage of your choice and sip through a professional wheel-throwing demo. Then, receive instruction on how to throw your own creation on the pottery wheel or by hand building. Clay and firing for three pieces included.

  • NEW! WHEEL NIGHT POTTERY WORKSHOPS

    Try your hand at the wheel at one of our community wheel nights. Check out the studio, socialize, and learn how to throw on the pottery wheel.

  • BUTTER DISHES
    Ages: 16+
    Friday, November 6, 6-8 p.m.

    Create a custom butter dish to keep your butter soft and spreadable with an artsy flair just in time for your Thanksgiving meal! Learn how to turn slabs of clay into handmade butter dishes to keep your butter soft and protected on your counter. Instructor Emma Pons will teach you how to use a slab roller and attach pieces of clay for any full or half stick butter dish. Pieces will then be fired and glazed by the instructor to be picked up 2-4 weeks after the workshop.

  • HOLIDAY WREATH PICTURE FRAMES
    Ages: 13+
    Sunday, November 29, 1-3 p.m.

    Frame your festive holiday photos in your own custom clay wreath frame! Spend a festive Sunday with Danni Foley at the COMO Pottery Studio as she walks you through creating the perfect wreath frame this holiday season. Make your own 5-7in circular wreath picture frame to be hung on the wall or sat above the fireplace. Custom paint or choose from our studio glazes to add a pop of color that fits your holiday mood! Pieces will be ready for pick-up 2-4 weeks after the workshop.

  • HOLIDAY ORNAMENT WORKSHOPS
    Ages: 3+ (Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult)
    Friday, December 4, 4-7 p.m.
    Saturday, December 5, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

    Create a custom ornament to be hung on your holiday tree for years to come. All ages and skill levels are welcome! This workshop has an extended time frame to allow individuals or families to drop in during the event. Individuals will be able to come and make one unique holiday ornament to be fired and glazed for pick-up by Dec. 19. Bring your own or use any of our studio cookie cutters for custom shapes then custom paint or pick any of our colorful studio glazes!

    Individuals can purchase additional tickets to make the corresponding number of ornaments. Adults can purchase ornament tickets for children/families under one name. Pottery will be fired and glazed by instructor and are available for pick up by December 19. You will receive an email when your items are available for pickup.

  • TEA LIGHT BOX LUMINARIES
    Ages: 13+
    Friday, January 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

    Cozy up with our own custom tea light luminary to illuminate your winter nights! Create with Danni Foley to make a box luminary, perfect for tea lights and small candles! Work with slabs and create your own constellation-like design for the light to shine through even on the coldest of nights.

    Participants will make one box luminary with their own custom design and studio glaze of their choosing. Pieces will be available for pick-up 2-4 weeks after the workshop.

  • CHARCUTERIE BOARDS
    Ages: 16+
    Saturday, February 27, 4-6 p.m.

    Participants will make their cutting board using studio templates or your own funky design. You will be able to leave it flat or carve out specific spaces for your favorite charcuterie snacks.

    All boards will not exceed 12in in any direction. Pottery will be fired and glazed by instructor and are available for pick up two to four weeks later.
