COMO Thrift Shop

An Eclectic Mix of Bargains
Repurpose—Reuse—Rejoice
The shop’s inventory features quality, gently-used clothing, furniture, jewelry, books, bric-a-brac, one-of-a-kind treasures, and more! Every item comes from the donations of our generous patrons. Your support is what helps the COMO and its programs year-round. Donations are gratefully accepted. You may call to arrange to drop off your donation at 860-535-9041. Established in 1947, at the end of WWII, by Mrs. A. H. Gildersleeve, the Stonington COMO operates one of the oldest thrift shops in the area. Gildersleeve determined the British War Relief efforts should be directed locally, specifically to benefit the COMO.
Most people know 45 Cutler Street as the home of COMO Thrift but our shop of wonders has popped up at various locations over the years! First located in the Potter Block on the corner of Water Street and Wall Street, COMO Thrift then moved to Mrs. Elizabeth Carlson’s basement at 22 Pearl Street. Next moving to the home of Robert S. Jones at 152 Water Street, followed by 161 Water Street, just a short distance away. Finally, COMO Thrift found its perfect spot at the Seaport Ford Building at 45 Cutler Street on May 1, 1975. The Seaport Ford, built in 1946, is approximately 6,600 square feet on a 1.8-acre parcel which now includes the COMO Paddle Courts and Children’s Garden!
